MANIFF Oscar Picks

With all the staff at The Manchester International FilmFest still reeling from the decision to exclude Jake Gylennhall's amazing turn in 'Nightcrawler' from the list of this years Oscar nominees, we decided this week to rally our critical opinions and devise our winners from the Academy's short list. With less than three weeks to go before the statues are handed out, our selections give you a flavour of our subjective tastes and definitive observations on the craft of filmmaking. For what it's worth the winners are...'Drum Roll'...(Big bang of a clue there!)

...and breathe! Probably well off the mark with February 22nd's winners, but it was great to see how our staff at ManIFF2015 saw this years applauded films and the discussions it generated around the unapplauded ones, that missed the 'beat' of Oscar's stick! We are all now off to A and E for a neck brace of biasty!

In case you didn't pick up on the subtle subtext, we 'snared' at ' Nightcrawlers' snubbing and brushed ourselves down to raise a bloody thumbs up for 'Whiplash', ManIFF's favourite from Oscar's hit list.
