The Best of Le MIaff

We are proud to present a selection of the best films from the 2015 Montreal International animation film festival.

House of unconsciousness

This short is a psychedelic drama about a chimney sweeper and a buring woman. The film is apparently based on a long-term study of the dreams that chimney sweeps encounter most frequently.

In a world controlled and timed by light, an ordinary man has a plan that could change the natural order of things.

A black sun rises on Leman Lake. In a surrealist backlit scene, swimmers and birds witness the spectacle of the dawn, hypnotized by the music of a cellist.

Last dance on the main

An animated documentary on the demolition of a row of historic buildings on Montreal’s St Laurent boulevard, also known as “The Main”, by politicians and building developers, and the resistance put up by the burlesque artists and the local community.

An angel, a wolf child, a cat. The film “Daewit”, animated in the tradition of wood cut technique, tells the story of an abandoned child, who grows up with wolfs after his mother rescued him from his violent father. Daewit becomes a man who is weary of living and noticed that he inherited some of his father’s characteristics. After an enigmatic journey full of privations and in quest for identity he finds his peace in forgiveness.

“Wrapped” is a VFX driven short film by Roman Kälin, Falko Paeper and Florian Wittmann that combines Time Lapse Photography with CG to create a new reality. The short explores the effects of time and change focusing on the the worlds seemingly never ending cycles. The deterioration of one is the foundation for another. This fact takes on new dimensions when the unexpected forces of nature clash with the existing structures of our civilization.
